You lost me in the first paragraph. If these super-old stars were originally made up 100% hydrogen and helium, but they’ve been burning for 13 billion years, they must be made up of something different now (because presumably the fusion that makes the star burn also alters its composition). How do we even know its initial composition after burning for such a long time? I imagine a lot of assumptions are required to extrapolate that far into the past.
